John Babcock graduated from Massena HS in 1958 where he was a 4 year varsity wrestling starter and a 3 time Section 10 Champion. In 1958 he was an Intersectional Champion (Section 3 Champ vs Section 10 Champ) and team captain in '58.
John graduated from Clarkson College 1962 where he wrestled and played lacrosse. He was the wrestling team captain in '61 and '62 and was named Clarkson's Outstanding Senior Athlete in1962. John was inducted into the Clarkson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.
After graduation John started officiating wrestling. He officiated in Section 9 from 1965 until 1970 and then in Section 3 from 1970 until 1995. He officiated the Section 3 finals from 1971 to 1983 and the NYS Tournament in 1971.
John coached a total of 24 years at South Jefferson (1983-1992), General Brown (1999-2001) and Immaculate Heart Central (2004-2016) winning over 100 matches at South Jefferson (119) and Immaculate Heart Central (111).

John and wife Loretta have been married for 55 years and have 3 sons Michael, John and Robert (all wrestled for South Jefferson). John worked for Allstate Insurance Co. for 40 years
