Chris Tironi

Class of 2008

Chris was a two time finalist in the Section 2 Wrestling Championships in 1982 and 1983. He would become a champion in 1983 and would go on to place 3rd in the NYS Tournament that year. He was also a 1982 Empire State Games Free Style Champion.

Chris would go on to wrestle for the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill where he would be a New York State Intercollegiate Champion. He would be inducted into the Cobleskill College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Chris would then go on to wrestle for Joe DeMeo at Albany from 1985 to 1987. Tironi would be a two time national heavyweight champion and one of the most decorated wrestlers in the school's history. In 1986/87 he was named the University at Albany Male Athlete of the Year. In his senior year, Tironi won his second NCAA Division III Championship in the heavyweight classification, as the Great Dames took third as a team.

In 1988 Chris competed for the Olympic team and made it as an alternate for the Seoul, South Korea games in Greco Roman wrestling. In 1990 Chris would wrestle for Team USA in Italy and Chris would then again be an Olympic Alternate in 1992 in Barcelona.

Besides the Fighting Tigers Hall of Fame, Chris has also been inducted into the Mechanicville Athletic Hall of Fame, The Division III Wrestling Hall of Fame, The University at Albany Athletics Hall of Fame and the Section 2 Wrestling Hall of Fame.
