John Janiak compiled an outstanding 90-12 record during his high school career at North Syracuse, including a 31-1 record in senior season.

In 1973, John won a County and Section III title at 138 lbs. He placed second at the New York State Wrestling Championships.

At Syracuse University, John earned All-American honors twice. He finished second (1975) and third (1978), both at 158 lbs. He is an East-West All-Star Champion, beating Paul Martin of Oklahoma State in 1976. He is a three-time EIWA Champion at 158 lbs. (1975, 1976 & 1978). John finished his collegiate wresting career with 89 wins against 9 losses.

John returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach from 1979-1981. He was a Team Member of the New York Athletic Club from 1976-1986. In 2003, John was inducted to the EIWA Hall of Fame.
Currently, John serves as a volunteer assistant wrestling coach at West Genesee High School.

John is a member of the Jehash International Exchange Program. He has served on its board of directors for three years.
