Class of 2001
Ilion Golden Bombers
Bob Turley graduated from ilion High School in 1967 and attended Springfield College, participating in both football and wrestling before graduating in 1971. In the fall of 1971, Bob returned to Ilion High School to begin a 29 year coaching career in football and wrestling.

In his 22 years as head coach, the Golden Bombers won almost 75% of their matches for over 220 wins. This included one Class B Championship to go along with 12 league titles. Two of Coach Turley's wrestlers reached the 100 win club; Tim Hyer in 1978 and Jeffrey Noll in 1988. Seven Golden Bombers have reached the Section III Tournament finals and in 1977 and 1978, Tim Hyer captured back-to-back Section III Championships.

For much of his 29 year coaching career, Bob has served as a league representative to Section III in both football and wrestling. "I have always appreciated the special relationship between football and wrestling. Each sport at Ilion always helped the other. The self-discipline and toughness required in wrestling cannot be duplicated in any other sport. The attributes gained in wrestling have contributed greatly to our success in football." The Bombers have capture three sectional titles.

"I will always be grateful to my high school coach, Werner Kleemann, for steering me in the right direction. I also thank my wife Rory for her encouragement and support and for attending all those matches and tournaments over the years. Finally, I thank the community of Ilion for their constant support and the opportunity to coach a great group of kids."
