Donald Distin

Class of 1993

Don has a quality that impresses many of his colleagues ---- the quality to defend his beliefs with determinatin and with convincing reasons. He has the respect of his friends and acquaintances for his honesty and loyalty.

Mr. Distin grew up in Fulton and graduated from the Fulton Public Schools. Don was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, a member of the Signal Corps. In 1952-53, he was the captain of the European Football Championship team and the 6th Armored Cavalry. He was also the trainer of the 6th Armored Cavalry boxing team.

Distin received his BS and MS degrees and his Administrative Supervision Certificate from Ithaca College. He earned his permanent Certification as Director of Health, Physical Education & Recreation from the State University of New York at Oswego.

Don served as President of Section III from 1978-80. He wore the President's hat for many other professional organizations, including the New York State Council of Administrators (69-70), New York State Dental Health Association (74-75), Central New York Cities League (66-67), Central Zone Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (67-68), Central Zone Directors of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (68-70), New York State Ahtletic Administrators Association (81-82). Don also served as President of the Fulton Kiwanis Club in 1971-72.

Because of his abilities and knowledge, Don has been asked to be the speaker at many Section, State, and National conferences. He has also been invited to be the chairman of numerous committees and workshops on the Section, State, and National levels.

Numerous honors have been bestowed on our good friend. He has been honored by his community, school, Section III, State and National organizations.

Mr. Distin is a man of great faith. He is a member of the Fulton Alliance Church, the chairman of the governing board, superintendent of Sunday School (83-86), and is serving as treasurer for his church since 1987. Don has also acted as chairman of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the Syracuse area for 5 years.
