Ilion Golden Bombers
Arthur Coons is a graduate of Springfield College, where he was twice the New England Heavyweight Wrestling Champion. His 40 year coaching career began in 1937 at Copenhagen High School. Arthur came to Ilion Central in 1939 and was responsible for establishing the wrestling program ther in 1951. His first winning season came only three years later and his first individual Sectional Champion followed shortly thereafter. Ilions best season under Arthur was 1958, when they finished fourth in the Section III Finals. Arthur retired in 1977.
